Roll and Read

at the Mercer Mall

2025

On Friday, June 27, 2025, CASEWV (Community Action of Southeastern West Virginia) enthusiastically participated in the "Roll and Read" event at the Mercer Mall, a wonderful community initiative promoting literacy and family engagement. This special event celebrated the beloved works of Laura Joffe Numeroff, author of the popular "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" series and other delightful children's books.

CASEWV was well-represented by staff and families from three of its vital programs: CASEWV Head Start, CASEWV Right from the Start, and CASEWV MIECHV Home Visitation. Our teams engaged with attendees, sharing information about our services and fostering a love for reading among the young participants. Children enjoyed interactive activities related to Numeroff's books, which are cherished for their whimsical, circular narratives that demonstrate cause-and-effect relationships in an engaging way.

Laura Joffe Numeroff's books, such as "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," "If You Give a Pig a Pancake," and "If You Take a Mouse to the Movies," are known for their charming and often humorous chain reactions. The central theme in her works revolves around the idea that one seemingly small action can lead to a series of escalating events, highlighting interconnectedness and the sometimes surprising consequences of our choices. These stories are not only entertaining but also subtly teach children about sequencing, prediction, and the fun of following a narrative thread.

CASEWV's participation in "Roll and Read" underscores our unwavering dedication to ensuring every child gets the chance to succeed. Through our comprehensive programs like Head Start, which provides early childhood education and family support, Right from the Start, focusing on early intervention and development, and MIECHV Home Visitation, offering crucial support to new parents, we are committed to nurturing young minds from the earliest stages. We believe that fostering a love of reading and supporting education at every stage of life is fundamental to building a stronger, more vibrant community, and events like "Roll and Read" are perfect opportunities to reinforce this commitment.
